Neonatal Consultants are expected to manage outpatients and inpatients.
Neonatal Consultants have a role in the teaching of Registrars, nursing staff and is expected to have a higher degree of involvement.
The Neonatal Consultants may involve rotation in the Neonatal Intensive Care unit, Operating room, New-born resuscitation, and other duties as delegated by the HOD.
Consultants are expected to attend and actively participate in Hospital meetings and lectures etc. as possible.
The post-holder will be expected share on call work as directed by the Head of department and clinical requirements
The successful candidate will have assigned duties in the Consultant weekly attending rota for NICU, SCBU and New-born Nurseries. A well-baby outpatient clinic will be incorporated into the post to run on Saturdays. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the further development of Neonatal services in line with local service requirement and the priorities of Royale Hayat hospital as directed by the head of department. A specialty interest to complement those of Consultants already in post will be welcomed. Current interests include Cardiology, Neonatal lung injury and Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome and medical education.
You will share responsibility for the training/supervision of the non-consultant Medical staff and nurses who work in the team. In addition, you will be expected to ensure that staff has access to advice and counselling.
The post holder will have full time commitment to Neonatal medicine.
All consultant neonatologists with or share between them full responsibilities for the clinical care of babies admitted to the Neonatal Unit.
You will support the Head of Neonatal Unit in the management of babies in NICU, HDU, SCBU and have a proportionate caseload in the new-born Nursery.
The named consultant has responsibilities for decisions involving complex ethical and clinical management issues.
The main duties and responsibilities of the post will include:
• Contribution to the daytime weekly attending rota for NNU level 5 and NNU level 2.
• Day to day decisions about the clinical management of babies in the unit during their attending week or while co-paired with the head of department.
• Out of hours responsibilities as outlined above
• Provision of cover for Consultant colleagues during periods of leave or approved absence. The cover for colleagues may involve rearranging attending weeks as required by the service as well as individual annual leave requirements, etc.
• Additional duties include joint responsibility for guideline development, antenatal counselling and attendance at “obstetric high risk” meetings, and perinatal mortality/morbidity meetings.
